In 2018, we invited 82-year-old June Hickey and visual artist David Capra to be UTP’s Rookie Reporters.

Further Information

During 2018 they pounded the pavements of Western Sydney meeting, greeting and interviewing artists from our program.

The series features June and David’s dogs Harry (the overweight Jack Russell) and Teena (the diva Dachshund.)

June Hickey

June Hickey has lived in Minto for 35 years. She is a keen gardener and loves bush walking. She has a Jack Russell terrier called Harry who keeps her on her toes and two kids Kathryn and Richard. June’s performing credits include Driven To New Pastures for the 2011 Sydney Festival, Life As We Know It 2013 & Talk Show, 2015.

David Capra

David Capra’s work is concerned with intercession; practices geared around the concept of healing.  Last year, he danced alongside his dachshund, Teena, in a throne room inspired by the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz (Workout, MCA); In Birthing Things in the Spirit: The Water Birth, he developed a synchronised swimming work with locals at a Eaglevale Pools. (Campbelltown Arts Centre) and in Teena at Funpark the public hugged a costumed dog reminiscent of Australia’s Wonderland, (Funpark, Sydney Festival).

In 2012 Capra was awarded the Parramatta Council/Coke-a-Cola Artist Residency and in 2013 he was awarded the Blake Prize’s John Coburn Emerging Artist Award. He was the host of Canvas on FBi Radio.
