Dear friend,

Dear friend, part of our larger Shorewell Presents project, invites the residents of Shorewell Park to share stories via letter writing and voicemail. Utp will be sending a physical letter to each household in the suburb, introducing the project and inviting them to take part.

Each resident that responds will be matched with a Pen Pal. These Shorewell Pen Pals will be artists drawn from Tasmania and Western Sydney.

This project aims to create a sense of connection beyond the confines of lockdown that is not reliant on the internet. We are delighted to be presenting Dear friend, with partners Burnie Community House and Ten Days on the Island.

David is currently the Little Orange Studio Coordinator at Campbelltown Arts centre (C-A-C). Little Orange is a cross-disciplinary studio for artists that identify with disability. David is a Sydney based artist who has a history of working with communities (much of the time with his collaborator Teena the dachshund). In 2018 David curated Sheer Fantasy (C-A-C) that included a number of newly commissioned works where artists contemplated private and internal landscapes that have long influenced their practice.

Jessie is a North West Coast based visual artist who fosters creativity and connection through studio and community-based projects and events. She explore’s place and presence in the neglected fringes of society; places where the boundary between the built and the natural world are beginning to blur, using installation and archival processes. Outside the studio Jessie facilitates meaning making, creativity and connection through art and cultural workshops and events.

Since returning to Tasmania five years ago, Pangas has participated in a number of group and solo exhibitions including Right Here Now, Regional Arts Australia’s National Showcase in the Museum of Australian Democracy, Old Parliament House as well as in collaborative community projects including co-creation of Here She Is, a Ten Days on the Island 2019 festival project. In 2018 Pangas graduated from the University of Tasmania Bachelor of Contemporary Art program with first class Honours.
