Alwin Reamillo, David Hawkes
Bayanihan Hopping Spirit House

In 2013 UTP commissioned Alwin Reamillo to explore how the community practice of bayanihan can be creatively translated and expanded within different community contexts.

Further Information

Working in collaboration with residents of Bankstown, Reamillo made the sculpture from bamboo and found materials. For the last two years it has been symbolically carried across Western Sydney and beyond. In 2015 is was first presented as a part of BANKSTOWN:LIVE (UTP & Sydney Festival, 2015), followed by Sculpture by the Sea (2015), Peacock Gallery and Auburn Arts Studio (2017) and Blacktown Arts Centre (2017).

The work will remain in the care of our international partner Museo Pambata and its first exhibition will be part of the inaugural Manila Biennale.
