Access, equity and inclusion sits at the core of how we think and work at Utp.
Utp exists to provide opportunities for artists with a plurality of lived experiences; opportunities for communities to participate in the art making process; and for audiences to experience contemporary art.
Our home is situated on the lands of the Darug people (in the heart of Canterbury-Bankstown, one of Australia's most culturally diverse cities) and we acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded. First Nations people and their cultures as well as broader cultural and linguistic diversity is not only valued and celebrated in our work as a company, it is centred. Racism in any form isn't tolerated.
Access to our work begins with our website (thank you Accessible Arts NSW). It's about clear readable text and having meaningful digital offerings for those who live in rural or remote areas or experience limited mobility beyond the impacts of COVID-19. And it's about providing free or affordable live, in-person experiences, and not having to travel too far from home.
When we present work, we aim to keep access front of mind again. Depending on the format of the work, it may contain closed captions, or audio description and have at least one Auslan interpreted performance and/or a relaxed session. Access may also include translation and other culturally specific needs.
Access, equity and inclusion can't be achieved without safety. We strive to be a safer space physically, culturally, digitally and interpersonally. We create an environment where all artists, including gender diverse and LGBTQIA+ identifying artists, audience and staff feel safe, welcomed and supported. Utp uses and respects pronouns for artists and visitors. We also facilitate name changes on previous published work for artists where requested.

Accessibility
Wheelchair users - All visitors to our home at Bankstown Arts Centre can utilise all public spaces. Entry to the Arts Centre is via the front of the building at Dale Parade.
There is an accessible and gender-neutral bathroom in the foyer of Bankstown Arts Centre with a handrail and an assistance button. All bathrooms in the centre have handrails and can be accessed directly or via the lift in the foyer.
The courtyard at Bankstown Arts Centre is marginally accessible for wheelchairs - there is a ramp to get to all rooms but there is no ramp into the inner grassy courtyard. The step down into the grassy courtyard is roughly 10cm high.
The Utp office is located on the first floor at Bankstown Arts Centre and is accessible via the Arts Centre foyer lift, or via the stage doors.
Parking and Public Transport - There is a minibus drop off zone at Dale Parade close to the Arts Centre's main entrance and parking is available at the Olympic Parade car park. Should you prefer to take public transport, Utp is located very close to Bankstown train station - about a 7 minute walk away.
d/Deaf & Hard of Hearing People - Hearing dogs are welcome at Utp and Bankstown Arts Centre. Attendees are welcome to take them into RS1 and the Utp office.
Utp and Bankstown Arts Centre does not have a hearing loop.
Blind & Partially Sighted People - Guide Dogs are welcome at Utp and Bankstown Arts Centre. Attendees are welcome to take them into RS1 or our office.
White Cane Users - are welcome at Utp and Bankstown Arts Centre.
People with sensory sensitivities - Prior to each season of new work, there will be detailed information for each production supplied online in the form of an Accessibility and Relaxed Performance Pack. This pack will describe the venue, set, main action on stage, the lighting and sound experience, as well as provide any relevant content warnings.
The courtyard area adjacent to RS1 provides a quiet space in natural surrounds for anyone who might need a break at any time during an event.
LGBTIQA+ - The bathrooms on the ground floor at Bankstown Arts Centre and back of house in the Utp theatre and rehearsal studio (RS1) are accessible and gender neutral.
