Gilgamesh – a dance poem centers movement as the core language for the retelling of the Gilgamesh story, a 4000 year old epic poem written in cuneiform on clay tablets, discovered in Nineveh, ancient Mesopotamia in present day Iraq.
Led by Rabih Rezek, a Syrian image-maker and dancer, now based on unceded Gadigal land, this project is currently in development for scriptwriting and choreography at Utp.
Interweaving movement, music, sung and spoken word with visual imagery, the contemporary retelling of Gilgamesh is developed through artistic experimentation and collaboration by a team of creatives from First Nations and Asian diaspora backgrounds.
