Deep Dive

Deep Dive

Deep Dive is a space to gather for constructive conversations about works-in-progress.

We invite creative practitioners connected to Western Sydney to get new eyes and perspectives on the work you have been developing.

We are building a community of peers to have in-depth dialogues about works-in-progress. These are not pitching sessions and artists in any stage of their career are welcome.

This program is most helpful for artists seeking perspectives on works that are halfway finished or near completion.

Six artists will be selected to present at one of three feedback sessions, facilitated by members of Utp’s team. Each will receive an artist fee of $260.

All are welcome to attend the session as feedback participants.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a Deep Dive Session look like?

Each Deep Dive session will run from 6pm - 8.30pm in RS1, Utp’s multipurpose venue at Bankstown Arts Centre, 5 Olympic Parade, Bankstown. Each artist presenting a work-in-progress will have 15 min presentation for time-based work, followed by 40 minutes of conversation facilitated by the Utp team. You can see a detailed schedule above.

Can I join if I don't have a work-in-progress to share?

Absolutely! You are most welcome to sign up as a participant. You will be prompted to fill out a simpler version of the EOI Form when you select the option to join as a 'participant'. Your questions, input and deep listening are most appreciated.

How will the discussions work in Deep Dive?

Each session is facilitated by a Utp team member. Flexibility is embedded within Utp’s feedback framework and a Utp Creative Producer will be in touch to develop a format that will feel most comfortable and fruitful for each artist. Artists are encouraged to work with Utp’s Creative Producer/s to develop a list of questions to ask the audience.

What are the forms of work in progress I can present?

We can support art forms including, but not limited to, photography, sculpture, installation, exhibition, performance, film, and new media.

How should I prepare to present at a Deep Dive session?

To present work-in-progress, we encourage artists to create a simple, low-tech installation or bring the digital files ready to be presented. A Utp Creative Producer will reach out after the notification to discuss any technical support needed on the day of your Deep Dive presentation.
